about kahaus

Sara Haddad started Kahaus as a radical departure from her previous career in book publishing in which she has worked for almost 20 years.

Growing up with a steel-fabricating father and an artist mother, forming a business turning steel into art was a natural choice for Sara. Home was a rambling Mediterranean villa in then semi-rural north-western Sydney, where her mother’s painting and pottery studio was a creative hub in which Sara and her four siblings were encouraged to play and explore. For Sara’s father, steel was generally the material of choice, and it was often used in ingenious ways, creating everything from sculpture and furniture to mailboxes and toys (including a life-size train complete with tracks and an electric engine). In this environment, Sara’s appreciation for the beauty and versatility of steel was forged. Now she is carrying on in the family tradition, interpreting familiar elements in stylised form in steel to create original art that is both decorative and functional. Some of Sara’s pieces are produced in the family business, now operated by her younger brother.

Sara Haddad lives in Sydney with her husband and daughter (who also happens to be her creative advisor for the Kinderhaus range).
